Hotel Review: Punta Nayaa, Puerto Escondido, MX

Punta Nayaa

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico

A quaint, emerald-city-esque boutique vibe in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

THE VIBE

This hotel feels like stepping barefoot into a sunny but shaded gemmed garden and into a slower version of yourself just by the paint alone. Day or night, the mood is quiet and earthy, making you feel connected to your surroundings, with lush trees and easy breezes.

Their outdoor infinity pool is located in the lobby, which sounds a bit chaotic, but considering it sits at a level below the lobby, it crafts an invitation you can’t ignore: to just take a quick dip. From there, you can choose to relax on the sun loungers around the pool.

The vibe of this hotel is definitely ideal for travelers who love green escapes and quiet end-of-evening experiences.

Think: Soft ocean air, bright green energy, warm wood textures, and mornings where the sun and chickens wake you up, not the city life.

THE ROOM

The rooms at Punta Nayaa offer a minimal but thoughtful feel. There is nothing excessive in the room, but nothing is missing, and anything you need, the lovely staff is happy to assist. You can expect the same open + airy layout provided in the lobby in your room, in combination with soft and diffused lighting that dances perfectly with the natural materials like wood, linen, and stone found throughout the rooms.

The bathroom and patio are the main highlights of the rooms for sure. The bathroom feels like an urban and airy space, and the patio in each room feels like stepping out onto your own personal oasis. Each room delivers the kind of experience that encourages you to stay in just as much as it invites you to go out.

THE DESIGN

The design leans into a coastal minimalism with a strong respect for placement and local style, using earth-toned colors matching the vibe of sand-dusted roads and textural contrasts to the beachy city, like smooth concrete and woven textile elements.

Our favorite parts of the design were the indoor-outdoor flow of the lobby, which feels bold but calm and intimate, creating a zen lobby authentically rooted in stillness. And the Roof Garden, located on the top floor of the hotel, pairs a beautiful open-air space with the stunning views of Oaxaca’s nature. Sipping a cocktail from the hotel's bar and reclining in one of the hammocks is on your to-do list.

There is no need to impress with frills because Punta Naaya simply is.

LOCATION

Located in La Punta of Brisas de Zicatela, you’re close to just about everything popular in the area. Best for anyone who’s okay with walking a little bit further, or anyone renting motorbikes / taking taxis everywhere.

This hotel is set in a more lowkey pocket of Puerto Escondido, so you get breathing room from the endlessly social vibes of the area, but you’re still close enough to explore beaches and food spots.

Ideal if you value:

  • Calm mornings

  • Easy beach access

  • A reset from overstimulation

FOOD & EXPERIENCE

The food here is intentionally light-touch. The hotel offers dining during the prime hours between 8:30 am + 5:00 pm with a menu offering breakfast items ranging from continental American options to dishes telling a story of the region, like Huevos Rancheros or Chilaquiles. During the day, they have bites allowing you the fuel you might desire in a hurry, like shrimp ceviche, salad, or a burger.

Then the bar offers fresh juice, coffee drinks, cocktails + wine options.

It was definitely worth it to have a breakfast rate included in our hotel stay because we were there to celebrate a birthday, which meant long nights and less morning time to search for food before getting back to the group fun.

FINAL VERDICT

If your version of luxury is quiet, intentional, and rooted in design, Hotel Punta Nayaa definitely delivers. If you’re looking for activity, energy, or indulgence, you’ll want something else.

There are plenty of homestyle stays available on Vrbo or Airbnb, but for the traveler who doesn’t want to work on their vacation (because trust, you will be burning plenty of energy on this trip with UVs reaching 10 by 9 AM), Punta Naaya is a great local option for this trip. The main benefit here is the location + the vibe. The location alone makes it a strong choice, but points are undoubtedly deducted due to accessibility.
